Various "Surrounded Part 2" Released 22.04.02 Cat No.SSCD002
Surround Sounds present Surrounded Part 2. Here is a stunning, deep, tribal, techy and very druggy mix provided by the talented Junk (Joe Williams a.k.a. as one half of the irrepressible The Light (Hooj/Sasha). This album is a collection of Class As! It starts off with a couple of killer tech-house cuts from sister label, 10 Kilo. Nathan Coles and PFN start off the proceedings in a seriously cool fashion before Junk take the mix low down, deep and dirty..subterranean tribal business.. that is lifted by the funk of Red Moons 'Basis' and the distorted, phat, electro-nica of Alpha Resource (sneak preview of a forthcoming belter of a single). A cheeky reedit of PFNs classic, 'Philter', which was featured on Sasha & Digweed's 'Northern Exposure: Communicate CD', the awesome new single from Kodiak and a newy from Junk. By this stage the pace has really picked up before finishing proceedings with the enormous, 'Bitter Little Pill' by Starecase. Job Done! Hope the come down isnt too bad.

DJ 19 "I.C." Released 22.04.02 Cat No.19BOX010
19 Box Recordings are back with this fine slab of dark and groovy phuturefunk. Placed somewhere between New York and London, we have DJ19s trip-tastic original mix that drives along in a mad, street racing type of way. Mesmerizing and hypnotic, one for the heads. On the A side is an amazing Piece Process remix thats about as DJ friendly as you could hope for. This mix keeps things dubby and techy without losing that favourable progressive edge. Already a hit with the worlds cooler jocks and now set to hit the streets for the masses.

Ingo "Like This" Released 22.04.02 Cat No.HOTWAX016
Hotwax re-release their first tune on the label with some big mixes. The original was huge and launched the career of Ingo and the label. It was this release that kicked started the northern hard house sound into gear and set the pace for others to follow. To celebrate this fact, the label have decided to update the track with some new fresh mixes in the form of a double pack. First up is Bulletproof who makes his third appearance on the label and delivers a driving mix with a hard off beat bassline and keeps the original feel. Next is Ben Kaye & Synergy who have been causing damage everywhere - this is a very different mix with nice stabs and a driving bassline. Then we have Colin B (aka Tweek) whose style of music and production just keeps on progressing with time.

Various "Freakaboom Compilation" Released 22.04.02 Cat No.FRKCD001
Formed in 1998 by Justin Owen (Databass), Freakaboom has steadily built itself up to a point where it is now considered to be one of the key underground labels currently pushing the boundaries of this thing we call breakbeat. After the explosion/implosion of Big Beat, Freakaboom was one of the first labels to step in to the vacuum in an attempt to define a sound that would open the doors for producers across the world. Releasing formative tunes for artists like Koma + Bones and 2 Sinners as well as providing a steady flow of debut releases for new producers, DJs from across the genre (and the planet) quickly began to take notice of this little East London label that relied, not on hype or mass marketing, but on a string of cutting edge releases that had dance floors jumping. Now, just over 3 years down the track, Freakaboom has grown to become home for some of the scenes best rising talents. Kraymon, Junk Magnet, Hedrock Valley Beats, Objects to name a few. Not one to rest on its laurels though, the label still maintains as a high priority the discovery of new, unsigned and unreleased talent as this compilation will show.

Dial M For Mogwai "Beatbox" Released 22.04.02 Cat No.KHZ001
Formerly appearing on Logic Records in 1998, 'Beat Box' was hammered by Judge Jules (at least 8 plays on Radio 1 of the original and Knuckleheadz mixes), spun by Pete Tong and by anyone who could lay their hands on a copy, and still is, with copies going for 10 at second hand shops! This is a limited pressing of the record before it appears on Tripoli Trax early next year. Included in this package is a new 2002 club from Dial M For Moguai and the original Knuckleheadz Mix which many regard as their finest moment next to their seminal 'House Rocca'.

DKMA "The Rocket" Released 22.04.02 Cat No.CHG002
The original is a hypnotic track with a mystical sound. A definitive record layered with vocals and minimal elements while the remix is deep, dirty and twisted with quirky sounds amidst unrelenting percussive beats. An intelligent rearrangement of Dana's vocals creates an intensity and anticipation that builds throughout. This is pure class.

Livio Tracks "Julya EP" Released 22.04.02 Cat No.BXRP0405
The Julya EP is an amazing 4 track techno EP that pushes the boundaires of the new hard dance sound that is sweeping across Europe, having been masterminded by Mauro Picotto, Marco Zaffarano, Chris Liebing and Jeff Mills. This 4 track belter is already gaining support in the UK from Fergie and Jules on Radio 1 and in the clubs from Anne Savage, Andy Farley, Dave Clarke, the Disco Brothers and the infamous BK .'Perpetue' is a tough track with Awesome style techno loops, filtered kick drums and percussion that kicks with ride hats that thrust the track into a rocking breakdown that goes off with a twisted siren sound. 'Password' is a banging techno groove with fierce percussion which is not for the faint hearted. 'Wanted' is a track that uses filters and solid percussion to interlink with a filtered vocal to hammer the track along. 'Totem' has a typical italian style trance techno fusion with uplifting stabs and undulating bassline that takes you on a journey.

Nimrod "U Know" Released 22.04.02 Cat No.EVE02053
On the A side is Pablo Gargano on the remix duties: he keeps the vocals from the beautifully haunting Dani G, but adds his own blend of crispy drum patterns, warm basslines, extra rhythmic melodies and luscious string washes. The flip features the original, and what a beauty it is...slightly harder than the A side, Tim concentrates on the stabby basslines and Danis excellent vocals.

Ratio "You In Me" Released 22.04.02 Cat No.GEKK12
Gekko returns with another firing progressive track from no other than Tony Praha Rapacioli, who has released tracks on Platipus, Gekko, Sony, Positiva etc. Some records grab you on first listen by sheer excellence of their musicality. It kind of sits on the fence between trance and progressive; and you cant ignore the beautiful vocals of Louise who has supplied vocals for labels such as Incentive, Cream, Platipus etc. Side B throbs and pulsates its way through gradually evolving filter scapes to their uncluttered conclusions. It leaves you wanting more, but in a very good way!

Paul Glazby & Ilogik "Can't Stop" Released 22.04.02 Cat No.VICMAN01
This is a collaboration between Vicious Circle and Elasticman. Both labels are based in the North and both have established themselves as driving forces in the scene in their first couple of years. Paul Glazby and Ilogik are the Norths 2 most prolific producers, whether theyre working on tracks for their own labels or doing remix work for other labels within the scene, a week rarely goes by when these 2 arent in the studio! Glazbys biggest releases to date have to be Beautiful, Kick It and his rework of Dreams on Virgins VC: Records which was hammered on Radio 1, while Ilogik has had great success with his Make It Happen, Check This Out and Dance With Devil. This really is peak time stuff, it drives along effortlessly before dropping into a rather subdued break, which then builds and builds before kicking off again with an almighty bang. The B-side is a more serious number with definite influence being taken from the Tinrib sound. Throbbing bass, stabby percussion and little scratchy effects drive the track along but its the big synth riff that really makes this track what it is.
This track leaps out of the break like an elephant on speed - James Lawson, Minstry Magazine
