Bluefish
"Three"
Released 3.12.01
Cat No.QC029

Global Underground's flagship singles label, Quad has undergone a complete re-birth with new management from a new London office. New signings and tighter links with the award winning compilation label means that Quad is receiving a massive increase in profile at club and press level. This production is the work of John and Barry, who are otherwise known as the highly acclaimed Evolution (Fluid Recordings). 'Three' is the follow-up to 'One/Two', which received a license to Sasha's Ibiza Global Underground CD. There is a huge buzz currently surrounding Evolution, after their successful single 'Crocodile Man' and the forthcoming 'Walking on Fire'. They are due to release their debut album, expected early next year. 'Three' is a solid and emotive progressive cut, which has already been No. 1 in the 3 Beat Club Chart and has received strong club play with full support from all the GU DJ's.

Gateway
"Modified"
Released 3.12.01
Cat No.RHYSYN010

This release follows hot on the heels of a number of great releases in 2001 for Rhythm Syndicate, including Pariah's 'Keep The Peace', Pitch Black's 'Underground Sound' (Heller Mixes), SSHH!'s 'Hold That Body' and Breeder's 'New York FM'. New producers Jay Storric and Neil McKay are behind the Gateway production and this has received amazing reactions from the DJs listed below. It was given to Sander Kleinenberg, who loved it so much that he included it on his excellent Nu-Breed CD, which was released earlier this year. The Darkhouse remix is a quality tech-house groover, which has been hammered by the Tyrant crew (Richards and Burridge) and by Terry Francis. This follows hot on the heels of their first production, the Darklight EP, which was featured on the Original Tyrant Compilation and was released a few weeks ago to critical acclaim.

Inland Knights
"Kept Secret"
Released 3.12.01
Cat No.VIS071

Two of the hottest UK producers of the moment return to the 20:20 Vision squad with arguably their finest EP to date. Laurence Ritchie and Andy Riley released their first EP on 20:20 Vision over 2 years ago, and have since been overwhelmed by the positive reaction they have received all over the world as purveyors of deep, funky, dubby house. Their own Drop Music imprint has spawned artists like Party Criminals, Big Audio Spidermite and, of course, the Inland Knights. Fans of the Drop sound will remember fondly their recent debut album, Creative Spaces, and will no doubt find their mouths and other body parts dampening at the prospect of this EP. The title track builds quickly with punchy kicks, hats and atmospheric swirls, and before you know it THAT bassline takes over - only for the looped up guitar to take things sleezy in cahoots with a diva-esque vocal loop. Nice. 'Used Blue' is a much slower, deeper affair to begin with that peaks in just the right place . Flip it over, and 'Drive Time' doesn't take any prisoners, launching any club into orbit as Chris Duckenfield, Yousef and Lottie will tell you. Finally, 'Cabassa's Chord' is proving popular with the deeper floors that are under the spell of Fred Everything, Miguel Migs and the soulful bods.

Jayne Hanna
"Lost"
Released 3.12.01
Cat No.VARTDJ11

Another superb release from one of the most reliable dance labels in the UK as the classic track 'Lost' gets a welcome re-release. Jayne Hanna's vocal classic has had a masterful re-working form Bill Hamel and Simon Noble under their pseudonym Mezz, who have not only stayed true to the awesome original but made this record a future classic. Jayne has already made a name for herself in the progressive market, with her sublime vocal talents, and is looked on as a lady you can rely on to produce a truly stunning vocal as Fluid have shown with the future release of their Evolution track called 'Walking On Fire'. Bill and Simon have recently had a smash under the Mezz name called 'Cubism', which was signed to Nebula. Here the dynamic duo deliver an incredible, tough, progressive work out, that is truly sensational, using driving beats, hard percussion, dark drums and superb stabs to create a deep, groovy, infectious, vocal monster, which is pure prog heaven.

Nocturnal
"Multiplex"
Released 3.12.01
Cat No.CR018

Crescendo continue their superb form with another stunning release from Nokternal, which is the follow up to his last slamming cut 'Marauder'. This is another chance to hear Justin Spear (Nokternal) in full effect, as he carves two tracks of pure, no-nonsense, funk-fuelled house which are guaranteed to set dancefloors alight. 'Multiplex' is a rolling, twisted, tech-disco track which uses floor hugging beats, punchy stabs, tough kick drums and driving percussion, all worked into lush, spaced chords and stabs which filter through the track beautifully. 'Zynch' on the flip has a neat, stripped down groove, which is deeper and moodier but has just as much punch and energy as the A side, perfect for those deeper moments on the dancefloor.

Geert Huinink
"Dream"
Released 3.12.01
Cat No.BLH131

One of the more mellow releases from this fantastic label comes to us by way of Geert Huinink & Alco Rhythm in this quality production. One side of this 12" has no drumbeat - its laid back, dreamy style makes it ideal for sitting back and chilling to on a Sunday afternoon. The other side is a bit more upbeat and more progressive with a skippy beat and really nice melody. We think this tune is more suited to the early part of the night with a nice build up from start to finish, its certainly the type of track the likes of Tiësto and Anthony Pappa would play in the early parts of their sets.

Chrome Dioxide II
"Hardcore Mother"
Released 3.12.01
Cat No.OTRFT07

The last release on OTR, 'Nuclear Device' by Derler & Klitzing is still doing the business on the dancefloors and was recently named by Anne Savage as her 'Tune Of 2001' in DJ Mag. 'Hardcore Mother' is a slice of quality German production that will leave the dancefloor begging for more! Tough, pumping drums, a fierce, phat bassline and an unforgettable female vocal, 'Hardcore Mother' is another proven crowd pleaser from OTR. Oliver Klitzing a.k.a Kaylab is one of Germany's rising stars and Kaygee is a young and talented producer / DJ whose fanbase is growing fast with recent remixes of 'Nuclear Device' and 'Fast Lane People' by Antiloop on Stockholm Records. Kaygee delivers in style, with a clever remix that combines his own distinctive nu-tech sound with the ingenuity of the original.

"Love the original - want to marry the remix - outstanding and front of box! 10/10"

Mark Dale
"Rain God"
Released 3.12.01
Cat No.BUILT003
The two tracks Purpose have already released by Crafty and Tony Thomas have already seen much acclaim and received chart and DJ plays by some of the best in the business. Now the label deliver their third spectacular cut from one of the UK's finest up and coming tech-house producers Mark Dale, brother of superstar techno DJ Colin Dale. Here he delivers two sublime stripped down, driving tech-house grooves. Both of these superb tracks are a perfect example of how to build on simple elements to produce compelling dancefloor music. Although different in aspects both will make a full assault on the dancefloor and show exactly how this type of music should be done.

Fade
"The Love"
Released 3.12.01
Cat No.FD019
The original track was a sublime progressive houser which was supported by Sasha, John Digweed and Paul Oakenfold back in the Late-1990s. Fade are two renowned US producers, Neil Kolo and Chris Fortier, who have remixed for Bedrock as well as producing one of the finest progressive house mixes ever, the classic Delerium - Silence, which was featured on Northern Exposure 3. 'The Love' has been updated and remixed by two of the best producers currently working the Stateside scene, Robb & Skinner, who have produced a stunning deep, driving house excursion. It is similar in style to their output as Sphere (Barry Robb) and their productions together on their own imprint 'Grounded Music'. On the flip side Medway has produced a techier mix which has found favour with the top jocks.

Fantasm
"In This"
Released 3.12.01
Cat No.SUB011
Previous releases for Subterrania include the classic 'Fiji' as well as 'Voyager II', 'Virus' & 'Neurofun'. 'In This' by Fantazm was engineered and programmed by George Winkworth. George Winkworth and Lloyd Horton occasionally take a slight departure from the usual trance environment to exercise a few demons and this is most definitely one of them. They, together with Paul Kershaw are responsible for most of the music that comes out of their Subterranian retreat.

Andy Farley
"Bring It Back"
Released 3.12.01
Cat No.NUKP0207
One of the most desirable hard house tracks in the Nukleuz back catalogue gets a well-deserved re-issue with a storming new mix. Out of stock at Nukleuz HQ for as long as any of us can remember, this in demand anthem has been changing hands on the web for three times its street value as budding DJs get turned on to the timeless power of BK & Farley's second production. To complement the stunning original Nukleuz have delivered a fanatstic remix by rising stars Paul Clarke & M Ramone, who have been delivering the goods on Frantic records amongst others. Totally banging is the order of the day, as these two go totally o.t.t. in the name of the party. This is the first of three classic Andy Farley remixes to come: watch out for new mixes of 'concentrate' and 'Beef Jerky' by BK and Dave Randall.

Hamel & Blackwatch
"Discotek"
Released 3.12.01
Cat No.BED28
The original mix of 'Discotek' is a tune that hits the ground running and then cranks up the tempo further with layers of dirty keyboard stabs and stomping beats. On the flip, the '6 AM DT Vinyl Dub', gives an understated intro, then paves the way to a crescendo of twisted, spaced-out dark noise, before pulling the crowd smiling as they go, back down to earth. Bill Hamel's production credentials speak for themselves, as the founder of Sunkissed and Teknology. He was featured in URB Magazines' 'Next 100' of producers and DJs ready to make their mark. Michael Thomas has released on Eve, Pitch Black, Yoshitoshi and Sunkissed to name but a few and 'Discotek' is featured on Quivver's Transport 5 CD. Remix credits include names like 'Satoshi Tomiie', 'Tone Depth' and Innate & Andy Moor releases.

Medea feat. Justine
"Universal"
Released 3.12.01
Cat No.TCOM015
Trance Communication continue to keep the quality high and the releases flowing, as they deliver another fantastic release featuring the heavenly vocals of Justine, who takes this track to new heights of excellence. 'Universal' is the debut release from Surrey based producer Mark Windsor and he has created a mighty slice of full blooded, pumping trance that is set to smash your floor and become a future trance anthem. The track was picked up after Mark was signed to a management deal, with Steve Helstrip's (Thrillseekers) DV8 media agency. The production is superb, as he uses flowing driving beats, flawless melodies and punchy drums to create an uplifting and powerful groove, which will set dancefloors alight. This is another fine example by 'ATCR' of how to make a difference in the trance market and release music, which is miles above the rest.

Medway vs. Gawtry
"Geno Sequence"
Released 3.12.01
Cat No.DCR008
This first Medway and Pete Gawtry collaboration has already gained strong support from DJs and the press. The 'Geno Sequence' is a deep tech-trance number that has been given the remix treatment by the highly prolific Tony Thomas. Medway is a favourite of Sasha, Digweed and Nick Warren amongst others. His 'My Release' track, which is featured on Digweed's recent Global Underground album can be considered an underground dance anthem. Pete Gawtry has previously released tracks on various other UK labels. Tony Thomas has just released an album on Circulation's Creative label to high critical acclaim. He has also just produced a stunning remix of Slam's new 'Alien Radio' single (currently being promo'd) and has also been signed by Soma to produce an artist album. His previous single on Soma, 'Beginnings' out last month, was heavily supported by Danny Rampling, and Seb Fontaine. A producer to watch.

OD404
"House Is On Fire"
Released 3.12.01
Cat No.12CHARGE006
The OD404 boys need little by way of an introduction, having had numerous releases and remixes on their own Kaktai label, as well as the likes of Tripoli Trax, Mohawk and Tidy Trax to name but a few. No strangers to the scene, they are genuine pioneers of the UK hard house sound. 'House Is On Fire' is one of their most floor friendly, crowd pleasing numbers to date, with their trademark tough beats complimented by catchy vocal hooks and a teasing, tantalising breakdown that's sure to raise the roof at any venue. On the remix front the very talented Paul Janes is on hand to turn in a truly inspired remake. Twisted basslines and menacing hoovers lead the way in what can only be described as a full on aural onslaught. This fiery little number will soon be setting dancefloors alight everywhere.

Dr Sparkle
"Lubrication EP"
Released 3.12.01
Cat No.UTC033
Chris Penny is a talented 26 year old producer with an equally mixed past. Penny grew up in LA before being transplanted to Brighton at the age of 7. As a teenager he soaked up the rough fusion of clubs like The Cockpit and spent all the weekends he could afford hanging out in Blackmarket finding out the home of his next club fix. Not one to be a purist, Penny would swing from the pure energy shots of Randall and Grooverider (his first ever release was a drum & bass outing) before ending up at the Ministry to check out Masters At Work or Tony Humphries. After a year in London to attend St. Martin's College of Art, Penny had had enough of England and headed to Dallas at the tale end of '95. It was there he joined up with the fledgling Fairpark Records crew and began checking DJs like (the then rising star) Derrick Carter. However it wasn't until he moved back to Los Angeles at the beginning of '97 that his recording career really started to get moving. There he hooked up with Seasons' Jamie Thinnes and the first CPEN releases were born.

Tocharian
"Lacuna"
Released 3.12.01
Cat No.INT07
This record is Intrinsic's strongest release to date. Jimmy Van M has included it on his mix CD for Bedrock plus Sasha has given it his full support with plays in many of his club sets and on Radio One for the Essential Mix live from Telewest Arena, Newcastle. Troy Roberts in San Francisco has been dropping the Kinesis remix in his Spundae sets. Tocharian is Matt Slater, who has remixed for Additive, Positiva and 19 Box in Japan. He has also worked very closely on Intrinsic releases 5 and 6 with Jon Gray (engineer for John Digweed and the Lightning Seeds). The remix this time is courtesy of Kinesis, best known for 'Bias' and 'Nexus'.

"I've been into this label from the start and this next release is the strongest so far, this is a label to watch in 2002."

- Lee Burridge

Tomaz vs. Filterheadz
"More House"
Released 3.12.01
Cat No.SPOT50
Following the success of TDR's 'Squelch', Spot On have again linked up with Holland's groundbreaking Headroom Label and licensed this stunning track from 'Traction' records. Head honcho Tomaz has teamed up with the prolific Filterheadz to produce a huge chunk of progressive fury, which is filled with tough, driving beats, hard percussion and immense sounds which produce a building, dark, chunky progressive track, that will raise the roof. Bush Bitch delivers another of his superb, dark, twisted work outs in the shape of this deep tech-monster that is not to be missed.

"Big Room EP 2"
Released 3.12.01
Cat No.NUKP0377
Over the last 12 months, Nukleuz' purple label has grown to be one of the biggest selling colours on the Nukleuz roster. The tough techno-influenced hard house and hard trance sound has proved popular with ravers and DJs from across the spectrum and has lead to mayhem everywhere from Gatecrasher to Riot. Once again, Nick Sentience gets down on this double header. A1 is 'Deep Inside', an unreleased secret weapon in Nick's well-travelled cd-r selection. 'Deep Inside' has rocked parties in Australia, Japan, Holland, Ibiza and the UK over the last six months. Banging to bits but with a depth unseen in traditional hard house productions, this track delivers the goods time and time again. AA1 is Nick Sentience & Harry Diamond's 'Groove Switch'. Rolling basslines and funky beats, this is the track that'll find favour with the likes of Judge Jules and Fergie.

Various
"FD Henderson EP"
Released 3.12.01
Cat No.UNTIDY018
FD Henderson is yet another product of Dutch label RCM records licensed to Untidy Trax. This four track EP covers all spectrums of the new found funky sound of Untidy and clearly sends the message that after all these years of producing some of the very best hard house and hard trance sounds, Tidy Trax as a label never fails to disappoint and will continue to bring us the very best sounds that you could possibly hear. First up comes 'I Like the Bass', a full on guitar filled funkster which is sure-fire floor filler, as is 'Dancin' All Night', only this track is a bit more vocal filled and more commercial sounding. On the flip side we have two more, mouth watering, slabs of funk: 'Heavens Above' is a more cool and chilled back track with piercing vocals, ideal for those early sets. 'My Mind Is On You' however is an ideal filler track for when the crowd needs to be brought down off the ceiling.

Trance-Genic
"Around Your Space"
Released 3.12.01
Cat No.RECOVER11
Licensed from seminal Italian label Red Alert, responsible among other things for the Paul Van Dyk championed DJ Cirillo releases on his own imprint Vandit, 'Around Your Space' comes with a remix from German producer of the moment DJ Scott Project. His release on UK label Positiva, 'O' has won him many fans, and his re-working for Recover will confirm his production talents. The DJ Scott Project mix features rough-edged basslines and a heavier rhythm section, added to the melodies of the original and fewer effects are used to give the track a rougher feel. The flip features the original mix by the Italian producers, and a more streamlined approach is used. Full use of the melodies together with its string breakdowns are the original mix's mainstay, coupled with a luscious production arrangement.
