D'Julz "Ze Theme" Released 27.5.03 Cat No. VIS087
A - Ze Theme
B1 - First Avenue
B2 - Dusty Groove
Making his second appearance on 2020 Vision is the hugely respected French artist, Julien Veniel, aka D'Julz. A major player on the French electronic scene, and one of the hardest working, most in demand DJs that France has produced in recent years. He has previously recorded original productions on Onionz & Joeskis Maya label, Serial records (Paris) and Josh Winks Ovum label, as well as excellent remixes of Celedas 'Burning Up' (Twisted USA), 'Deep South' by Layo & Bushwacka (End Records) and for Paper Recordings, Stricly Rhythm and Product deluxe. As a DJ, he has played just about every club worth mentioning in the world. As resident of the Respect and famous Magic Garden parties in Paris, he has been able to hone his skills to such a point that he is now in demand at leading clubs like Fabric (London), The Arches (Glasgow), Tunnel (New York) and La Terrazza (Barcelona), Batofar (Paris) and Pacha (Ibiza). His stunning double mix CD, DJulz Boxes, on React features tracks from the Inland Knights, Joeski & Chus and Swag as well as his own amazing mix of an unreleased Funky Transport track and has sold excellently worldwide. His debut 2020 Vision single 'Timeless Bass' was a permanent fixture in the boxes of Laurent Garnier, Josh Wink, Danny Howells, Yousef, Chris Duckenfield and Domenic Cappello and has been used on the French film 'Anatomie de lenfer' by acclaimed director Catherine Breillat. He has supplied three killer tracks for his second EP for 2020. 'Ze Theme' opens proceedings with some haunting strings, familiar beats and a cool hypnotic building groove, Danny Tenaglia stole Ralphs CDr promo of it when he guested at Dannys 'Be Yourself' night in New York and has been playing it ever since. 'First Avenue' picks up the pace a little and has already been slaying some of the worlds cooler clubs with its dirty bassline, Funky stabs (that recall classic Prince) and the outstanding signature DJulz production. Finally 'Dusty Groove' brings the EP to a deep and dark finale, with its haunting riffs and 4am hypnotic, locked on feel, perfect for Batofar, Fabric, Basics and The End.

Dave Brennan "Drink Deep" Released 27.5.03 Cat No. END052 / END052R
Disc 1:
A - Drink Deep
B - Bombis Acid
Disc 2:
A - Drink Deep (James Zabiela mix)
B - Bombis Acid (Mr C remix)
Drink Deep / Bombis Acid is the debut release from Newcastle born DJ / producer Dave Brennan. Dave, a long term fan of the label, was signed to End Recordings from a demo - the first he had ever given out - handed to label boss Mr C at last years V2002 festival. Given that its his first production its all the more surprising to find that Drink Deep is a percussive End classic in the making. A staple of Layo & Bushwacka!s recent sets, the tracks drum dynamics sparked some serious crowd participatin rave nostalgia at the duos recent birthday celebrations at The End - with Bushwacka! out and about distributing glow in the dark whistles into the crowd. Reminiscent of Swags early Versions series on Jus Trax, Drink Deep builds from layers and layers of hydraulic, hypnotic percussion over an LFO bassline and some star gazing, psychedelic FX. The flip, 'Bombis Acid' is a tribute to some of Daves early clubbing adventures a time spent taking the term acid house just a little too literally. On disc 2, James Zabiela and Mr C combine on remix duty.

Equinox "Direct Drive" Released 27.5.03 Cat No. TZT005
A - Direct Drive (remix)
B - Direct Drive
Equinox returns after recent remix duties for Kaktai to add a futuristic twist on one of his previous releases. 'Direct Drive' was originally released 4 years ago. Manic uplifting stabs and mad twisting undercurrent synth lines should keep even the most hardened of clubbers gasping for air by the time this remix is through. The original mix from 1999 features on the flip and was intended to bridge a void between trance and hard house. It seems strange how they know embrace each other, but back then you either played one or the other. So take a trip back and listen to a track that could have kickstarted it all.

Femme Fatale "The Love EP" Released 27.5.03 Cat No. BOSS004
A - Give Me Your Love
B - Easy To Love
The Love EP is a new outing from Irish producer Micky Modelle bangin house DJ and Enigma resident who managed 3 of the top underground record stores in Ireland for years (Streetdance, Elite and Central.) Having started to produce his own material it wasnt long before his tracks were being played by people like Tony De Vit, Steve Thomas, Lisa Pin-Up etc. He then started producing as the Tuff Twins with Paul Young and their debut EP, Dirty Disco was hammered by everybody including Judge Jules on Radio 1 for three months solid. The outfit went on to remix everyone from Atomic Kitten, the Vengaboys, and Ian Van Dahl right through to harder material from Rachel Auburn and Tripoli Trax. Micky also collaborated on productions with Lisa Pin-Up, Anne Savage and Rachel Auburn and has signed tracks to compilations all over the world in America, Australia, Japan, Holland and Spain. The Love EP is a bumper packed 12 featuring 2 cover versions of all time northern club classics from back in the day. Full on female vocal anthems with big bouncing basslines and hard hitting euro synths - another winner for Boss records.

Fortunato & Monstrssor "Imagine" Released 27.5.03 Cat No. BED40R
A - Imagine (Chris Fortier remix)
B - Imagine (Chris Fortier dub)
Fortunato & Montresor's 'Imagine' speaks for itself in having lost nothing in the time since it's original release. A gorgeous, deep house track demonstrates the huge depth and range of abilities in these awesome producers, as does the willingness with which superb producers like Pole Folder and Chris Fortier turn their production credentials to these tracks. Fortier kicks the track solidly into 2003 with a driving, edgy remix which maintains the energy and wicked vocal hook of the original. As with Pole Folder's 'Sense Of Imagination' remix, Fortier takes things deeper and keeps the rolling bass patterns and filtered vocal to add to the already massively atmospheric cut. All builds through the vocal into some waving FX as the track takes you by surprise in building layers and taking you further and further into the mix. Sustaining the depth and atmosphere of the original, Chris adds some straight forward house credentials to the mix and produces a brilliant package with a huge crossover appeal.

Ictus "So Smooth" Released 27.5.03 Cat No. DB006
A - So Smooth
B - Party Bag
Ictus have seen numerous successful releases on labels across the world such as Mindfood (U.S.A), Minimal and Dirty Blue Records (UK). Their production is always fantastic, with each track managing to some how always sound fresh and new, with new sounds, new arrangements and wicked samples throughout. What a wicked groove housey / techy crossover stuff, which will appeal to the Fabric massive everywhere. Support has come strong from some top west coast us DJs, UK deep house / tech house DJs and even from big room house fans Futureshock. The A-Side is a wicked, house groove, with layers of bass and that infectious hook carrying things along perfectly. Add in that wicked, little looped vocal and everything moves towards a rhythm laced break, before spiraling out to the finish. Flip it for 'Party Bag', which aptly opts for a slightly bigger feel, with chunkier drums, a more tech-y feel and plenty of percussion to shake your ass to. Should do very well on the white isle this summer.

The Insiders "True" Released 27.5.03 Cat No. NU12015
A - True
B - Just Won't Stop
'True' gets off to a solid stepping beat that punches through the system while liquid undertones build the vibe. Clever use of percussion and bongos make the beat groove until it breaks into a flood of Detroit techno washed over half tempo beats. An easily recognisable vocal and excellent bassline melody then take the track off into dancefloor territory. This is Bristol drumnbass verses Chicago house. A TRUE classic in the making! 'Just Won't Stop' is a track that has been a favourite at the Nu Directions HQ for some time. Filtered strings and a sturdy bassline complement the well-programmed drums and the infectious vocal of Just Wont Stop just rolls out. This is only stopped for a superb breakdown that is so simple, but so effective. Soulful vibes with a running bassline.

B - Future Abues (Re-rub)
Ever faithful breaks producer Meat Katie (Mark Pember) joins Dark Globe in another chunky, funked-up solid breaks feast. Superb production at the hands of Meat Katie and Dark Globe, they've come up with a throbbing, punky house breaks track with it's attention fixed firmly on peak time dance floor devastation. On the flip, Meat Katie & Dark Globe turn their attention back on themselves in ever critical stylee, re-rubbing the massive 'Future Abuse', an urgent, dark floor breaks number with a solid 4/4 groove underneath it. Wintersun "Majors Of Pleasure" Released 27.5.03 Cat No. AUTO41
A - Majors Of Pleasure
B - Heat Ray
Majors Of Pleasure is a tech house track driven by a big bassline with drums that can only be described as rolling. A synth stab reminiscent of the lead riff sound from Inner Citys classic, 'Big Fun', is a key ingredient in the track, as is the dubbed out trickery that featured in Wintersuns first release for Automatic, 'Atonal Measure'. A choice vocal sample adds to the atmosphere perfectly. This track is a swinging groover and a hypnotic head tune combined, so it should whip any house club dancefloor into a frenzy. 'Heat Ray' is driven by funky conga led percussion and topped with an array of dub business that gives it a twisted, hypnotic quality which the deep, dark, twisted vocal enhances. This track will cause serious movement of bass bins and bodies on the dancefloor. Heat Ray is #8 in Vinyl Addictions Cool Cuts Chart.

Ant "Ain't No Stopping This" Released 27.5.03 Cat No. PTS012
A -
B -
The title speaks for itself. After the collapse of Infectious Distribution last year, it looked as though the label, as with many others, would not survive. But just a couple of months ago, the Stay Up Forever Collective decided to take on Power Tools, allowing Ant to continue producing his funky and very distinctive brand of techno. Fresh back from a tour of the US and Japan, Ant was itching to get back in the studio to get the first release under the SUF name underway, and THIS is it. On the A, tough loops and a prominent vocal define this track from the start, leading into those all-important Power Tools style 'broken' synths. On the AA, funky acid basses and hard crystal loops create the backbone for this track, which features 24 bars of rapping throughout the break and second half of the arrangement.

First up Aaron Liberator and the geezer don their crash helmets and racing gloves as the mad Crash & Burn for a cranked up no bars held acid work out with lots of cut up parts and heavy as fuck percussion, that is the signature of when these two nutters get together and have been to the off license too many times. On the flip, old mucker of the Liberators and Venezuelas best DJ brings the vibe of his sets to the table for a hard and pumping work out.
