Colin B
"Activate"

Released 24.03.03
Cat No. EM019

A - Activate (Justin Bourne vs Project Mayhem remix)
B - Activate

This is one of Colin B's (of Hot Wax and Vacuum fame) best productions to date. It shows a sign of maturity and ever increasing skill. This time fusing tech-y elements with trance to create an uplifting track. With the aggressive Justin Bourne and Project Mayhem remix, on the flip, it gives the release an extra edge and takes it down a harder, darker route. This release is setting dancefloors alight all over the country.

Julio Torres
"Supernova"

Released 24.03.03
Cat No. PANTH11

A - Supernova
B - Stretch

Panther is known for deep house from the worlds finest groundbreaking artists; and has been supported by a range of DJs from Howells to Oakenfold. Julio Torres is a 23-year old DJ from Sao Paulo. He was spinning records by his early teens, and in 1994 got together with friends to organise a rave under the banner, 'To Keep the Floor of House Music Alive'. The name may lose a little in translation, but the spirit is universal in any language. Julio continues to play alongside the best DJs from both Brazil and around the world with his current residencies at Lust in Campinas and Next in Sao Paulo. His debut track on Hook Recordings, 'Feel the Groove' featured on Space 2002 amongst others and was released on the 'Worldwide EP', a showcase for up-and-coming talent from around the globe, which Julio most certainly is. Supernova and Stretch (on the flip) showcase some of the best material coming from the exploding house scene in Brazil just now. As a leading DJ and producer there, Julio has captured the latin flavour of his home country perfectly with these tribal tinged house grooves for Panther. Julio is also set to spin in Ibiza throughout this coming season and will be making his debut appearances in London clubs this Spring.

A - Navigation
B - Harijan

Celestial's 'Navigation' marks the first release of Bradford-based label Midnight Recordings. Celestial is comprised of Alexander Church and Phil Joyce. The atmospheric 'Welcome To My World' on Gravitation had numerous plays on John Digweed's Kiss FM show and 'Downward Spirals / Sinful Sessions' on Source of Gravity earned support from Hernan Cattaneo and Troy Roberts radio show in San Francisco. His 'Midnight Blue' remix, with Richard Gill of Forbidden Planets 'Holding On To You' on Black Ice Recordings was played by Pete Tong on his Radio 1 show. Disc 2:
A - One Sound (Artnarko remix)
B - One Sound (Thomas Penton's Slider remix)

Judging by this two disc affair Chris and Thomas are keeping the quality strong. These tracks have been giving DJ and punter a run-around as they try to hunt out the vinyl after hearing it played out on CD by DJs such as Satoshi Tomiie, Anthony Pappa, Danny Howells, BT, Bill Hamel, Innate and Dave Ralph to name but a few. The track has also been shortlisted for a couple of forthcoming CDs inc. John 'OO' Flemmings next compilation.

James Harcourt
"Diaspora"

Released 24.03.03
Cat No. REL008

A - Diaspora (Luke Fair remix)
B - Diaspora

Much of the credit for the recent buzz over Torontos budding dance scene falls on the shoulders and turntables of DJ and music producer Luke Fair. Chosen by DJ magazine as one of their faces to watch in 2002 Fair is set to storm the international dance music scene with an eclectic style that includes twisted vocal house, trippy slow moving grooves, and anything else that Fair can use to fire up the dance floor. His first release in late 2001 earned praise from Anthony Pappa along with chart placings from Steve McCreery, Liam Kennedy and others. Check out his releases and remixes on Bedrock, Saw, Yoshitoshi, Fade and Inversus. 2003 is going to be massive for this talented young producer. From the looks of things, this release is going to blow the progressive faithful out of the water. The on-form Luke Fair delivers a monstrous housey, proggy hybrid mix, laced with deep bass, crisp percussion and plenty of space, which builds and builds from a deep housey groove into a top quality mid set blinder. Flip it for the B (Original), which delves into deeper, darker territory, maintaining a solid groove.

Blue Room Project

Released 24.03.03
Cat No. SABOTAGELP01AB

B - Paul Lancaster - Don't Stop Burning

These tracks have taken deep house and prog house to the next level. A perfect fit to the Sabotage stable, they have found a warm welcome in Cass's record box around the global. Expect a warm techy intro, fat kick drum and crisp production. If ever a record was made for the likes of Sasha then it's this one!

Carlo Resort
"Remover"

Released 24.03.03
Cat No. LQ031

A - Remover (Club mix)
B1 - Remover (4 Strings mix)
B2 - Remover

Remover is an uplifting trance production that puts a smile on your face: quality trance that we are used to hearing from this fantastic producer. On the A-side youll find the happy and bouncy club mix. On the flip side you will find the 4 Strings Remix, a more uplifting mix, and on the B2 theres the original mix. The founder of trance project 4 Strings is Dutch producer Carlo Resort. He had international success with Carlos and Alena and 2 years ago with the 4 Strings first release, 'Day Time'. He has released tracks via AM:PM in the UK, Liquid in Holland and Zeitgeist in Germany and reached the top of the club charts several times. After releasing Take Me Away Into The Night and Diving, 4 Strings can call themselves one of Europes hottest dance projects at the moment.

Marcello Castelli
"South America"

Released 24.03.03
Cat No. MUSQ002

A - South America
B - The Mind Of A Tribal Man

This is going to be a monster over late spring and into the summer. Massive tribal rhythms and flavas, laced over grinding sub basslines and that spaced out South America vocal. It builds and builds with some eerie effects and top notch production into the main breakdown and out to the finish. Flip it for 'The Mind Of A Tribal Man', another wicked groove, this time opting for some deeper patterns, warm bass and wicked effects to create an excellent groove. Slightly more laid back than the A-side, but still maintaining a top class groove throughout. Marcelo Castelli has been producing top quality house music for a number of years, having found success with a series of quality releases on Kismet & Low Pressings. Marcelos quality tracks include some of the most exotic South American tribal rhythms including original Candombe sounds from Uruguay, Marcelos home state.

Chris Cowie
"Discotek"

Released 24.03.03
Cat No. BL060

A - Discotek
B - Lifter

Despite his intuitive ability to come out with a big-room stormer at the drop of a hat, techno is where Chris heart truly lies and the reason why DJs from Jeff Mills and Laurent Garnier to Seb Fontaine and Danny Tenaglia regularly name-check Cowie as not only an influence, but an inspiration. You cant hold this guy down. Fresh from mashing heads with the breakbeat monster Nostra, the boss man returns with another incomparable slice of brilliance. Discotek takes a deep, minimal route through skipping breaks and subdued keyboard and vocal stabs, then as the kick drum hits its pedal to the metal for a spot of high-altitude cruising. B-side Lifter does just that: upping the tempo as a funky electronic bassline propels the groove into orbit with the aid of sweet female vocals and jetstream fx. Infectious tech-house for the dancefloor. Between his DJing gigs, Chris has been busy producing with Czech superstar techno DJ Lucca and DJ San. His 5th LP is shaping up for release later this year.

Defective Audio
"Floorburn"

Released 24.03.03
Cat No. VCR019

A - Floorburn
B - Floorburn (Paul Glazby mix)

Defective Audio is one of the many guises of Dom Sweeten, a producer who is always on the cutting edge and never afraid to try out new sounds. Having had years of success with his own label Kaktai, and also remixes on just about every label around with his OD404 guise that he shares with Superfast Oz, Dom Sweeten shows no sign of letting up yet. Paul Glazby again comes up trumps with the remix. Still melodic, but managing to combine driving elements, Pauls remix definitely delivers the goods. A slightly softer mix from Mr Glazby, along the lines of Vicious circle anthem 'Beautiful'.

I love this track, thats why Ive put it on the tidy album Im mixing Anne Savage

DMF & Marc Johnson
"Jam Busta"

Released 24.03.03
Cat No. BABYDOLL008

A - Jam Busta
B - Dream Machine

Jam Busta, popular with BK, is a tougher departure for Baby Doll, and is receiving massive support on both the hard trance and hard house scenes. The AA Side Dream Machine covers cooler territory, a lush, string-soaked trance epic that many, like Paul Janes, are giving more support too making this a very strong package indeed. DMF is hailed by Muzik mag as the hard dance producer to watch in 2003. Muzik tipped James Lawson in 2002, so you know DMF will blow up any day soon. DMF vs Simon Eve's Genesis is currently huge in clubland.

Fate Federation
"Mesmerize"

Released 24.03.03
Cat No. BLH158

A - Mesmerize
B - Crime Scene

Another warm trance-influenced production from the guys behind 3 drives, Ton T.B. and Erik de Koning. 'Mesmerize' is a bright trancey tune with a catchy melodic hook which slowly builds up to a climax in the second break. The flip side, 'Crimescene' is a bit darker and more pumpin'.

Floorplay
"The Beat"

Released 24.03.03
Cat No. AUTOWHITE002

A - The Beat

Floorplay, who have released on Perfecto, are back with their first release since 2000. Its a big room banger with driving drums and a badass bassline. Co-written by Tim Healey of Paris & Healey.

Clever use of classic sample pounding track works like a charm on the floor, and brings back memories for me - Jerry Bonham (SPUNDAE USA resident)

A party pumper! Large reaction on the dancefloor - Danny Slade (Escape Club/BBC Wales)

Tough & groovy yet wonderfully lush and tripped out - Ashley Casselle

Mark Kingston
"Can I Have The Rhythm"

Released 24.03.03
Cat No. HK070

A - Can I Have The Rhythm
B - Can I Have The Rhythm (remix)

An underground DJ in the North of England since the early nineties, Mark Shifty Kingston has lived up to his name, whether it playing to Sheffields underworld fraternity at shady warehouse parties or broadcasting pirate radio to the hungry clubbers of Leeds. He also knows a thing or two about constructing sexy, latin-tinged trance and likes to wear his sunglasses at night. Mark Kingston returns to Hook following up his acclaimed Worldwide EP debut, Todos Las Dias. Again with vocalist Miriam, Mark serves up the breaks-influenced Can I Have The Rhythm. Its a bit of a diversion from Todos Las Dias, he reveals. I've been listening to a fair amount of breaks-influenced stuff lately - Lee Coombs, The Drummatic Twins, that kind of stuff - and you can hear that in the beats and the bass. There's more of a loose funky feel to the track, but I nailed the production pretty well so it still kicks like a mule.

Knuckleheadz vs James Lawson
"Irrational Impulses"

Released 24.03.03
Cat No. KHZ005

A - Irrational Impulses
B - Irrational Impulses (Ilogik remix)

The fifth release from the Knuckleheadz label which has previously featured artists such as Prime Mover, Base Graffiti, and Short Circuit's Justin Bourne. James Lawson is one of the top hard dance producers around, having had numerous releases and remixes on labels such as Nukleuz, Tidy Trax, Tripoli Trax and Honey Pot. He is also one half of Edison Factor. James is responsible for 'Energize' (Nukleuz) and 'Times Like These' (Nukleuz) which have both sold in excess of 5000 copies. He also had no less than 5 productions on the latest 'Hard House Euphoria' CD mixed by Lisa Lashes. On the flip, Ilogik from Elasticman once again provides a tough trademark workout as only he can.

Stephane Malca
"Revolution"

Released 24.03.03
Cat No. KIND8D1 / KINK8D2

Disc 1:
A - Revolution (Mike Monday Goodman remix)
B1 - Revolution (Alex Neri remix)
B2 - Revolution

Disc 2:
A - Revolution (Mike Monday Badman remix)
B1 - Revolution (Spacefunk vocal mix)
B2 - Revolution (Spacefunk dub)

Revolution is a lost classic, originally on limited releas by Prozak Trax in France in 1998 when Stephane Malca released his debut album with the French imprint. Kinky vinyl co-founder Mike Monday used to play the Alex Neri mix in every set at every gig and it was the one record guaranteed to make people dance and remember. Stephane Malca has been involved in dance since 89. Playing over 300 concerts and making four precious albums the last for Prozak Trax in France called 'Next To You'. He teamed up with US artist Kenny Norris on 'Revolution' to make house music which is seductive and funky. Alex Neri is a producer / remixer with a long history in dance, most notably he is the man behind Planet Funk nuff said. Mike Monday is an established producer / remixer with mixes for the likes of Hooj, Additive, Whoop! Intra, Emi and more under his belt as well as his single releases. Funky house is his trademark and hes done the business here for kinky again with two diverse but awesome mixes. Spacefunk are also known as Pussy 2000 and recently signed to V2.

Tom Mangan
"Chutney"

Released 24.03.03
Cat No. BED36X

A - Chutney (Moonface remix)
B - Chutney (T-Zer remix)

After kicking up a storm in Miami in the hands of a select few, 'Chutney' went on to reaffirm its huge party status in Ibiza this summer before a release on Bedrock Records in September 2002. Re-edited by Nick Muir who was struck by the warping sound treatments, punky house sound and a breakdown that's right off the map, the trademark Bedrock big low end was added and they found they'd made 'Chutney'. Picked up by the keen ears of John Digweed, stolen from the record box of Timo Maas the second it was off the decks and thrashed in Space by Carl Cox, Tom Mangan is unquestionably one of the rising stars on the house scene as 'Chutney' reinjects a fresh, punky energy onto the dancefloors of the world. Josh Wink gave it an edge with his reinterpretation, and now Phil Thompson (aka Moonface) lends another leftfield housey mix to the throng. One of the most diverse and eclectic producers on the scene, Phil brings his familiar fine production and solid house credentials to 'Chutney' as always, with a twist. The Moonface Mix plants itself more firmly in the house world than what's gone before, whilst his T-zar mix is a heady mix of beats that drop into DJ Tools before billowing out in the final dancefloor cut of the track.

Various
"Recoverworld Residents EP 1"

Released 24.03.03
Cat No. RECOVER021

A - DJ Peace - The Force
B - Orpheus 2 - Flatliner

As clubbers from London and the south east are already aware, Recoverworld is Recover's club night at The Fridge that was launched in October 2002, and with three near sell-out events already, they decided it was time to give some of the resident DJs and PAs a chance on the label. DJ Peace is resident at Recoverworld and Antiworld, and while we all knew he could play a roof raising set, we had no idea he had it in him to produce roof raising hard trance with his first ever appearance on vinyl. The Force is peak time material for the harder trance crowds, and is already generating a lot of interest from the DJ fraternity, such as Lee Haslam at Tidy Trax. On the second side we have Orpheus 2, who have performed live PAs at many leading events in the south east, but despite playing all their own material and rocking the crowd every time, they had never got round to releasing anything on vinyl. Consider that situation now resolved with Flatliner: dirty hard trance very much in the Lab-4 mould guaranteed to get pulses racing.

Sam Reeve & Duffin
"Dataday"

Released 24.03.03
Cat No. HOTWAX0242

A - Dataday
B - Reactorvate

Disc 2 of the Hot Wax 24 package sees new artist Duffin collaborating with Sam Reeve to bring us 'Dataday'. It starts off with clean tight percussion which leads into a heavyweight rolling bass, followed up by snippets of the main riff building to the breakdown. The main riff filters in and lets rip, taking you on a fierce journey to the end. 'Reactorvate' is an old skool-style stomper from Sam Reeve on his jacks. The energy of these tracks will be sure to rip through all dancefloors.

Alan T
"Spacejam"

Released 24.03.03
Cat No. ANODYNE09X

A - Spacejam (AK's Tribal Drums remix)
B - Spacejam (AK's Tribal Space remix)

Midnight Society hail from Miami, as does Alan T who is one of the infamous club door bitches, and when they tell you to dance, you dance! Dark, moody and very hypnotic you have to be in space to jam to this!

DJ Touche
"Temper"

Released 24.03.03
Cat No. BRG052

A1 - Temper
A2 - DJ Tool
B - Temper (Theo's dub)

Theo Keating is also known as The Wiseguys who scored a world wide hit with the awesome Ooh La La on Wall of Sound. Under his DJ Touche monicker, Theo has had two EPs on Heat, Gimme My Money and the excellent 'Dizzy Spell' / 'Black Light' as well as his double A side 'Tangerine' / 'Good Looking' on Subliminal. Here Theo brings his love of hip hop to the house generation with a slice of cut up house that destroys dancefloors.

The Bluefoot Project
"Brave"

Released 24.03.03
Cat No. CFACD005

1 - Concrete
2 - Mongrels
3 - Mistake
4 - Little Miss Selfish
5 - Interlude
6 - I Don't Need You
7 - Does He Love You?
8 - Try
9 - Soma
10 - In A Light Place
11 - Hold You

'Brave' is the long awaited debut album from West Yorkshires rising stars The Bluefoot Project. Straight to the point and distinctly urban, the band who are reputedly named after Leeds City Centres 'ladies of the night' prove their song writing superiority over the rest of the pack. The band kick out a cool live soul with deep grooves over lush sample based technologies. Seasoned through appearances in club venues and festivals in the UK and Eire (already including Glastonbury 2000 and 2002) live drums (Chris), bass and guitars (Matt), Ian (bass), James (DJ), Ilana (backing vocals) produce clever, but airy song structures with enough space to let Rachels nebulous vocal experience shine through. Oova (MC) is the perfect compliment, bringing with him a dry, street, down to earth perspective satisfied with the drugs Im using, satisfied with the food, satisfied with my broken computer.... Once in a while, a voice comes along to knock you sideways. That voice belongs to Rachel Modest. Finishing some of her work here with child, her lyrical observations have a timeless, deep rooted spirituality sadly lacking in most contemporary 'soul influenced' music. Her tone, melody and rich vocal harmonies contrive some of the most beautiful and truly soulful utterances you may be privileged to hear all year. 'Brave' is set to capitalize on the success of their debut 'Observations' EP (also on Chocolate Fireguard) which hurdled the likes of Jill Scott and Jamiroquai to the sureplayer slot in DJ mag and to consolidate The Bluefoot Projects reputation as one of the UKs most original and exciting live club acts, and Rachel Modest as one of the greatest singers of the last ten years.

Dymos
"Defending"

Released 24.3.03
Cat No. M101

A - Defending
B - The Unexpected

A double 'A' sided monster from the man behind the seminal classic 'Plastic dreams' (R&S Records) Robin 'Jaydee' Albers. That and 'Music Is So Special' were hits all over the world. During the past few years Robin became a fan of a more proggy and tribal style. Still, Dymos is a true Jaydee production. Keep in mind that 'Plastic Dreams' was also never supposed to be created as a commercial hit single. 'Defending' is the more proggy, techy affair, whilst 'The unexpected' is the trump card with its lush, Nalin & Kane type vibes. Moun10 (geddit?) is Robin's own new imprint, set up as part of the Essential Music Group in the Netherlands, whose label roster also includes Nutrition, the home the The Shrink amongst others.
