Darko & Greed
"Different Stranger"

Released 9.12.02
Cat No.SOG015

What a track. Trademark Sumsonic production is order of the day yet again, with bobbing basslines, catchy infectious hooks and the faintest of melodies fading in and out throughout the mix. Add some crunching beats, with two similar but equally as good mixes on both sides, this is a fantatic mid set houser, guaranteed to sound well in the club. Dark, yet without scaring the shit out of you, its atmospheric tracks like this which should form the backbone of every DJs set. Sumsonic was founded by Chris Gainer along with partners Mark OBrien and Paul Rogers with the common goal of doing our music, independently. While Chris runs the label and develops the business, his partners spend most of their time in the studio writing and producing. Darko (Mark O Brien) and Gainer are certainly no strangers to fame in the scene, after a hugely successful remix of Greed on SOG, along with a host of massive releases through their own labels Sumsonic and Mechanism, their uniquely distinguishable sound will be found in all self respecting DJs boxes for years to come.

Bat Van Wissen
"Illuminate"

Released 9.12.02
Cat No.DEEP009

At the tender age of only 19, Bart Van Wissen has a bright future ahead of him on the production scene. Being snapped up by Peter Van Hal for Deep Records, following a demo CD, he introduces this his first ever worldwide release. Using a basic studio, consisting simply of the acclaimed Reason 2.0 and a selection of other software, Bart has developed his own unique sound, certainly one which will stand out from the crowd. His favour for melodic grooves and tight production are definitely evident on this release, plus on the forthcoming tracks which Deep have already signed. With major record deals also in the pipeline with 2 high profile Dutch labels, on a trancier tip, Bart Van Wissen will be a label to watch for in the future. The A-side 'Illuminate' is a floating, melodic beauty, laced with lush chords, tribal percussion, deep sub bass lines and an innately infectious chime. It builds through the mix into a sweeping, chord driven number, with twinkling melodies to die for. Already rated 5:5 in the forthcoming MUZIK Magazine and receiving heavy support from Nick Warren, Anthony Pappa, John Graham, Sander Kleinenberg and Lucien Foort on a limited test pressing, this is an essential release. Flip it for 'Deviate' on the B-side, another fantastic melodic number, guaranteed to leave you smiling like a lottery winner! Tight percussion led beats, bobbing basslines and mild key changes are evident throughout, spiralling up and up into a hypnotising, loved up groove.

Steve Blake & Phil Reynolds
"Phase 2"

Released 9.12.02
Cat No.TTRAX090 / TTRAX090R

Phil Reynolds has recently mixed the Frantic Residents compilation and is signed to Nukleuz. Quasistereo ft. ACL
"Addictions (2002 Remixes)"

Released 9.12.02
Cat No.ANODYNE10

Quasistereo is one of Italy's premier and longest running DJs and producers, respected everywhere. Addictions was originally the second release on Anodyne and due to constant harrassment it has been bought back to life and remixed. Hamish
"Life Song"

Released 9.12.02
Cat No.GRV10123BLM

The track is an ethereal meeting of Hamishs angelic voice and melody. Certainly not traditional in any sense of the word: pushing boundaries, 'Life Song' fuses rhythms and harmonies. Smatterings of pop sensibilities with shades of light measured against the driving beat, Hamish and Bryan craft a sound which is unique and hook laiden, far more important for todays dancefloor. MC Cowan and St James are Hamish. Their names might not immediately seem recognisable, but their music speaks volumes. With a background in non-rock / pop music, Hamish Mc Cowan stormed the Australian charts in 97 with the emotive single 'Crazy' alongside his band Cordrazine.

Kaleidoscope
"Everything In The World"

Released 9.12.02
Cat No.KALD001 / KALD001RMX

Kaleidoscope Records is a new label, dedicated to pure house music in its finest form. No flashy covers or artwork, just top quality music for dancing. Following the success of last year's massive vocal anthem 'Every Woman Needs Love', 'Everything in the World' is already a favourite with DJs Eric Morillo, Danny Rampling and Roger Sanchez. Remixers, Stella Browne have worked under a barrel-load of pseudonyms such as Ground Control, Nu Birth and Gant, and have remixed Basement Jaxx's next single as well as tracks by All Saints, Geri and Robbie. It's as purveyors of fine gangsta garage 187 Lockdown that they struck the proverbial though with no less than four Top 20 singles. They're still working in the garage scene, scoring underground success with tracks under a variety of pseudonyms such as DYNK, Reflex and Bass City Rollers and have done 2-step mixes for the likes of Another Level, George Morel, Lisa Stansfield and Donnell Jones. Agent Sumo are the duo of Steven Halliday & Martin Cole. The pair between them have had a string of big hitting EPs and remixes to their name and both make numerous DJ appearances worldwide. Their debut single was 24 hours, an infectious dancefloor filler which was massive in Miami and supported by Seb Fontaine, Danny Rampling and Roger Sanchez. It brought them to the attention of Virgin, who then immediately signed them. Their debut single '24 Hours' was an infectious dancefloor filler, huge in Miami, and supported by the likes of Seb Fontaine, Boy George and Danny Rampling.

DJ Nukem
"Music Play"

Released 9.12.02

"A driving, dirty groove that packs a punch on a journey through a percussion-fuelled ride of coolness" says Steve Parry from 3 Beat and that just about sums up the record. The B side is remixed by DJ Gogo.

The Realm
"Lost In Space"

Released 9.12.02
Cat No.3BTT66RMX

After the huge success of his debut 'Dive' that has been hammered by Sasha and Digweed on their Delta Heavy tour, hes been in the studio for 8 days a week, whipping up lethal combinations of melody, bass and percussion to devastating effect. Deep grooves, tough percussion and trademark synth and bass combos are order of the day, with 2 mixes a corking A side laced with effected vocals and filters, and a wicked B side less the vocal and on a slightly darker tip. Devastating effect on the floor from both mixes.

Ultrasun
"Love Me More"

Released 9.12.02
Cat No.HUSSY013

Love Me More is a vocal led uplifting trance track, comparable to Lasgo, Dee Dee and the like. The Club and Extended mixes are euphoric madness while German powerhouse DJ Tom delivers a darker, big room interpretation perfect for the rave environment. The track debuted at #12 in official Aria Club Chart in Australia. The marriage of credible song writing and uplifting trance has found a new ambassador, and its born from the unison of Melbournes Katie Michaelson and Christos who together are Ultrasun. With the intent of reviving real music with all the elements of a fun and uplifting dance production, Ultrasun describe themselves as a hybrid of Ian Van Dahl and Kylie Minogue. Katie brings to the equation a lengthy 5-year background of live performances and personal song-writing experience and above all a killer voice. With a handful of up-and-coming Melbourne acts also enlisting her creative talents, Katie set her sights on dance music, and injecting the scene with just a little bit more substance. At the ripe age of 11, Christos chose the keyboard instead of the soccer ball a move that is now paying dividends. Catalysing a 12-year background in music, ranging from dance to classical, Christos has in the past few years applied himself to remixing other artists, including Lios newest single 'At The End'.

Rob Allen
"The Buzzer"

Released 9.12.02
Cat No.HOTWAX023

Another new artist slides into the Hotwax stable via Buzzer. Rob Allan hits us up with his first track, and what a stormer it is. An awesome B Line and rolling percussion leads to the break with stabs from the main riff, then a low pass introduction to the mainline as it builds back up again. The remix from Sam reeve, whose new tracks and style have been turning heads, is no exception to his new techy sound. Wicked fills and evil filters fill this side out nicely proving that Sam is a force to be reckoned with.

Aristo Cats
"The RDM"

Released 9.12.02
Cat No.1670022130

The Aristocats are Luc Tytgat, Reonar Hadri and Olivier Gosseries. '"The RDM' (aka 'The Rhythm') is a driving house cut with snatches of Deee-Lite's 'What is love?' ("How do you say?") sampled to superb effect. For those who like it more frantic, the 'Electracid mix' does exactly what the mix suggests. A nice disco-house groove with a sexy female vocal sample - easy to mix and makes a good to start the second part of a DJ set.

Christian
"Driving You Mad"

Released 9.12.02
Cat No.EM017

Following on from his huge success on Frantic with 'Free Your Mind', Christian signs his next tune to Elasticman. 'Driving You Mad' is one of Lisa Lashes big tunes of the moment and has been included on the next Euphoria album, which is due out in December. The remix comes from the two pioneers of hard trance Steve Blake and Phil Reynolds, who have appeared on every major hard house label of late. Yet again another belter that Elasticman have become so famed for.

Cutmasters
"Front To Back"

Released 9.12.02
Cat No.SUB92T

Needless to say that Mint Royale have hit the National Top 20 several times in the last couple of years with tracks such as 'Sexiest Man In Jamaica' and 'Dont Falter'. A rather unusual record for Subversive in terms of style (i.e not house but Dutch Euro Hard Trance), this record will be promoted and released in a different sleeve from normal under the Subversive Hard banner. The original record by Mint Royale producers Chris and Neil was released to wide acclaim in early 2000 and pounded all the right charts with its Rhythm Masters and Mint Royale remixes (SUB59T).These remixes were commissioned by Warners in Holland and stormed into the Top 20 in the Dutch club chart.

Tony De Vit
"I Don't Care"

Released 9.12.02
Cat No.TIDY181T

"I will never forget writing this track, it was 5am, mid-week 1997, Tony and I had just left a gig he played in Leeds, all fired up on pumpin hard house we decided to head straight to our Birmingham studio (V2 Productions Studio, The Custard Factory, Digbeth, Birmingham, UK) to try and harness some of that mad energy. 'I Don't Care' was the product of that day! Tony would be proud of it's re-release!" - Simon Parkes

The legend that is Tony De Vit continues: 4 years have now past since the very untimely death of one of the world's greatest DJs, but despite his absence the presence of Tony still lives on. Tidy have always worked closely with his family and friends to keep his name alive, and to expose some of his classic production work to the new generation of people who never had the chance to experience his genius. 'I Don't Care' is one of those moments that now needs to be re-exposed to the world once more, copies of the original were recently changing hands for up to 100 - this shows how important this track is to the hard house scene. Tony was an inspiration to everyone, especially the top producers of today - and there is none finer than BK - who was honoured to produce the new remix. Ben has delivered the perfect mix that sits so well next to the classic original, he has kept the true feel of the original and added his superb production values. Some people have the opinion that true classics should not be touched or even re-released - this unfortunately is our snobbery instincts which undermine what music is all about. When Tony went into that studio to produce a track he wanted the world to hear it - its a natural feeling for any writer or producer to feel that way - we here at Tidy also feel that way and that's why this track should be accessible to everyone - especially his new and inspired fans. "Music is the shorthand of emotion and is written for the world to hear".

Foremost Poets
"Open Season"

Cat No.BRG049

He has also worked with a wide variety of artists and producers including George Benson, Lauryn Hill, SWV, Missy Elliot, Erika Badu and more. He first came to prominence in the UK as Foremost Poets with the national hit Reasons To Be Dismal.

Hydraulix vs Blackout Audio
"Untitled"

Released 9.12.02
Cat No.HYDRO016

Hydraulix presents a pure and bloody techno battle. In the red corner (side a), Dave The Drummer (recently voted 100 in top100 DJs) gets down to the core of the Hydraulix sound to give you a sleek and stripped back winner. In the blue corner, Mark Eg and partner Chrissi demonstrate why they are in demand for their techno productions under their Blackout Audio moniker. Tuff but always leading with the groove this side is definitely for all you techno lovers.

Alexander Koning
"Mystique"

Released 9.12.02
Cat No.BL057

Alexander Konings second outing for Bellboy is the tribal tech-house Mystique EP. Koning also runs his own Bassethound label, has collaborated with artists including Hungarian-based Andy Slate and Swedens Mikeal Jonasson and has contributed to the catalogues of labels such as Pitch, Babe, Equal and Zync. His records have been known to be played by some of the biggest names around, including Carl Cox, Laurent Garnier, Ben Sims, Joel Mull, Seb Fontaine, Oliver Lieb and Ariel. Tribal twisted tech-house is the order for this EP, minimal vocal led percussion and enough funk to keep the Jackson 5 dancing!

JDS
"The Drummer"

Released 9.12.02
Cat No.RHYSYN025R

Rhythm Syndicate have done it again! Following the storming success of 'The Drummer' original breaks mixes in October 2002, JDS are set to make another splash with 'The Drummer' remixes. In their 5th year of making musical history, these two well respected DJ/ Producers (Julian Napolitano and Darren Pearce) have, in their lifetime, as well as 'Punk or Funk' and 'The Drummer', released massive hits such as 'London Town', 'Oriental' and the classic '9 Ways' and with this project, they do it again. With its relentless bass line, 'The Drummer' (4/4 mix) is not messing.. It is like a dub in that it has been stripped down to the core, though the 4/4 mix is equally as hard, if not harder than the original! The overall effect is raw and percussive, and with no complex build ups or layers, it makes for a simple but effective tune; totally banging and one to have if you want to up the energy on the dance floor! The LR Stooopid mix is equally astounding, a very smoothly produced track, and totally different from the original. It is essentially 4 to the floor, giving it wide crossover appeal suitable for anyone playing a breaks, prog house set or a pumping tribal set. Without the crisp vocal loop that makes 'The Drummer' original distinct, no one would know any better. With the high hat breaks and the phat 303 synth chord ripping through it, the LR Stooopid mix is gonna be equally as popular as the original.

Jody Lei
"Showdown"

Released 9.12.02
Cat No.LEI001

'Showdown' is the debut single from hot new pop R&B sensation Jodie Lei, who commercial debut drops in early 2003. Hailing from South Africa, this 18 year old songstress is a diva in the making, her fantastic voice belying her diminutive stature. These mixes come from one of the deities of house music Mood II Swings awesome John Ciafone, responsible for a plethora of massive records in his own and Mood II Swing guises including of course Ultra Nates 'Free'. Very funky vocal house. Ciafone takes Jodies poppy lead vocal and elements of the original production to transform the record into a timeless US garage anthem in the vein of 'Free' or 'Dont Mess With My Man'. The dub also illustrates why John is one of the hottest and more imaginative house producers of our time.

NDSA
"Or What EP"

Released 9.12.02
Cat No.VSUAL004

NDSA's first album, released in December 1999, marked a new era for trance/psytrance with a much deeper and progressive view on what underground dancefloors should shake their asses to. Since then there has been a constant development regarding both sound and production which has resulted in an international acknowledgement and the title innovative has been a trademark. Having had massive success on SOG, Baroque and their own label Visual, these boys certainly know what rocks. Or What is one of those records you hear and a club and go what the hell is that!. You can almost see the trainspotters run to the DJ booth! Arcing synth lines, growling bass, driving rhythms and shimmering melodies all laced over trademark tough as hell percussion. What more could you ask for? Flip it for a monster remix from Inkfish which has taken the progressive scene by storm. Check out the eerie synth from the break onwards which will send a shiver to your soul. Inkfish were founded in 1998, and they have been seen on compilations by Ministry of Sound and Renaissance to name but a few. Releasing tune on labels such as Choo Choo, Tune Inn, Dorigen and their own Inkfish label, there is no doubt that they are rather neat producers.

J-P Parikka
"Tekha"

Released 9.12.02
Cat No.MAELT023

Maelstroms sound is best described as quality electronic music with a techy edge. A new arrival at Amato, Maelstrom has a very solid profile with releases from Oliver Klein, Alex Flatner, Wheed Baskin, Marc OTool, Nic Vegter, SIA (!) and Groove Cyclone. Here, Finnish producer Jussi-Pekka Parikka or J-P Parikka to his mates lands with a cool slice of techno in the shape of 'Tekha'. J-P has released for Dessous, Stir 15 and also appears on the Slip 'n Slide blues CD-compilation 'Northern Lights' with the track 'Machines'. Future projects are scheduled for release via Spiritual and Pokerflat Recordings. Remix duties go to the always quality Svek who add their unique tech-house touch to two superb remixes. In their Chord Duet remix things get dirty with filtered chords and a driving sub. On the flip Sveks Lonely Chord remix takes it deeper still with the same filtered chords but with a stabbing one-chord groove. Soldrhythm get into a tech-breaks sound taking the chords from the original over a broken techno beat.

Spacefrog
"Terminator"

Released 9.12.02
Cat No.OTRFT013

Review from www.offitsface.com and www.dance-music-reviews.com:

For their thirteenth release, London's OTR label have enlisted the production talents of German producers Spacefrog, who have recently gone from strength to strength following releases for Tripoli Trax. With two mixes on offer for Terminator, the Survival Extended Mix starts with a spoken vocal before launching into some weird percussion and a grinding synth. Some chopped up vocals follow as well as some cool stabs. Spoken vocals that sound more at home in an Underworld release and evil rave stabs follow that really add to the dark element of the track, cool stuff. On the flip, the Evil Twin Brother Mix ups the pace of the original and starts with some cool synth parts, as well as including the stabs from the original and giving the track an even darker twist. Certainly worth checking this one out if you like the darker stuff. Nice one OTR! 8 out of 10.

Rob Tissera

Various
"F-Cubed (Future:Fat:Funk) EP 1"

Released 9.12.02
Cat No.0472PBEA

This EP covers different artistic tastes on house music from the more natural sounds on the 4 Tribes remix which uses live bass and guitar with Hammond strings and a distinct Michael Jackson vocal hook from his track on the Thriller album Wanna Be Startin Something, to the electronic edged You Wanna.. which has filtered drops and bubbling synths with 80s' edged melodies and with Funky Dirt supplying the dirtier sound to this EP. Grinding funk with a filthy bassline and signature disco stab fills are the order of the day. These do however have one thing in common. They were all written to make the crowd go off. Tom Neville and Hawk Dawson have been working together as producers and remixers for a couple of years. Originally they started as part of dance band Sentience, this moved into DJing when they started their own weekly house night called Ignition. Having gone from strength to strength, they now hold a residency at RIOT! @ The End as well as playing at a host of parties in and around London. Ben Medcalf (Rogue Element) started his musical career as a drummer to Nu-Metal band Blindside but then moved into the world of dance music after having build up his own studio. Bens distinct take on dance music comes from his combined experience as a musician and songwriter. This is his 1st release on Beautiful Records with his follow up track Channel to Channel already in the pipeline.

Billy Daniel Bunter & Lisa Pin Ups What Would We Do was released at the start of the hard house boom, and went on to be a massive seller. The original mix was fun and went with the pumpin vibe of the time, here Roosta has updated the track, and given it a tuff hard dance feel. Roosta has really come in to his own over the past 6 months and has proved him self to be very popular. All of his remixes and productions have been strong sellers with great reviews and this single will build his profile even more.
