Phillip Charles "Auraplex" Released 28.10.02 Cat No.SHABCD005 / SHABLP005
The awesome new album from Phillip Charles combines futuristic jazz with tech-house, lush vocals with dirty beats and experimental sound scapes with sweet hooks. The overall sound is of Sun Ra after his first pill with Herbie Hancock on keyboards, Kraftwerk engineering and Kenny Dope on beats. Phillip Charles got his break doing remix work for the first Sylk 130 album in 1997 and playing bass with Dego (4 Hero) on the first Tek 9 record. Fellow Philadelphia resident King Britt took him under his wing and they went on to remix Miles Davis Shhh and Phil helped produce the When the Funk Hits the Fan. The pair still work together with Phil co-producing five tracks on the massive Sylk 130 album of last year, 'Remembers Only'. He went on to build a reputation as an A-league and unique remixer under his RETROFONIX LABS moniker on to the likes of Macy Gray. He released Elektrik Dreamer on Shaboom Records in 2000 to great critical acclaim that was supported by Jon Marsh (who licensed it to his Fabric compilation) and Deep Dish who latched on to the minimal and crystal clear production and haunting vocal. This was followed up by Love live for you in 2001 that rocked clubs from Manchesters Tribal Sessions to Londons Fabric and they both provided a great taster for the album. Phil can count on Sasha and Satoshi Tomie as fans and he has since gone on to work with the cream of todays cutting edge producers including Jazzanova and 4 Hero, as well as remixing for John Digweeds Bedrock, Hooj and The End. He produced three tracks on Ursula Ruckers album and recorded and Remixed for Deep Dishs Yoshitoshi. "Very interesting stuff, not the regular house sound" Fred Everything
"Really cool vibe" Murray Richardson
"This one is gorgeous" Craig Richards

Allen & Healey "Scream & Shout" Released 28.10.02 Cat No.AUTO35
Allen & Healy unleash another infectious Automatic groove with Scream and Shout, an epic track that creeps and builds effortlessly from a rich tapestry of uplifting tribal percussion and subtle, teasing strings. The energetic innocence of the intro is corrupted by a dirty bassline that flirts with the track at the one-minute mark, followed by a distorted and contorted male vocal. At the three-minute mark this groundbreaking release launches into its peak with an abrasive synth complimenting the cheeky bassline and ritualistic drums that formulate this distinctive house track. On the flip Allen & Healy utilize one of the best percussion loops from the first dawn of progressive house back in the early 90s and inject some 21st century funk into it along with a zany spoken word sample and a weird and wonderful collection of sonics and fx to create an absolute stormer of a track simply entitled 'Acid House'.
"Quite possibly a beefed up take on Depeche Mode during their 'Black Celebration' days, Allen & Healey use a dark heavy-hitting bass groove interwoven with a distorted male vocal and grimey synth stabs to drive the point home." BPM Mag (USA)

Bedrock "Emerald" Released 28.10.02 Cat No.PEALP61695 / PEALP61705
The latest twist in the Bedrock story sees John Digweed and Nick Muir tread a fresh and exciting path in house music with this driving energy-packed track. Forthcoming on Bedrock Records, both artist and label reaffirm their position at the forefront of house with 'Emerald' due for release late October. Always pushing back the boundaries and rewriting the rules, here Digweed and Muir show what it's all about with a funky, bass driven percussive number that picks up and kicks off from the word go. A mainstay record for Sasha, John, and more recently Pete Tong, 'Emerald' shines with a melodic feel that sustains its edge and the ability to send shivers down your spine. Twists in all the right places in the original mix and polished with the usual high level of production associated with Bedrock, and released with a huge pulsating remix from the Filterheadz, 'Emerald' looks likely to prove an essential new tune for the record box.

Taka Boom "Groove Like That" Released 28.10.02 Cat No.SHAB054
At last, a track which has been causing a stir with all the majors eventually gets to see the light of day before the original drops, remixed and dubbed up on Shaboom Records. The original is a fiery slice of funky house with a phat bassline over tough drums and natural born diva Taka Boom giving it her all over the infectious song. She then made it a family affair by hauling her little known sister Chaka Khan and brother Mark Stevens (The Jamaica Boys) onto backing vocals to provide an unrivalled powerhouse vocal trio. Philadelphia Soul meets Blackpool House! The track was written by Taka and Mark Blakkat Bell a couple of years ago during one of their studio sessions which in the past has produced club hits like If You Need Me (Buzz Chart number 6) and chart hits like Sweet Sensation (National Chart number 44 and Pete Tongs Essential new tune). With this release, New York musical maverick DJ Onionz gets on the remix and shows why he has releases on the cream of the world's underground house labels like NRK, Electrik Soul and Siesta. He takes the bones of the track and gives it his own unique latin tinged trademark that had Greg Vickers flipping out and playing it twice in one night at Manchesters Tribal Sessions and the USA's 6400 Crew all over it. So get in early on a guaranteed future slab of pure pedigree music....I mean how many house records today can boast Chaka Khan on it?!!

Fred Everything "Light Of Day" Released 28.10.02 Cat No.VIS080
The name Fred Everything has become synonymous with 20:20 Vision over the years, yet there have been nearly 40 releases since his last full single for us, (although he has found time to produce stunning remixes for NLO, BRS and Soldiers of Twilight). This is because he has been working on his new 2020 Vision album, the follow up to 2000s awesome debut long player 'Under The Sun'. When not on tour playing his trademark bumpy, funky digital disco treats to admiring crowds in some of the worlds cooler clubs (Fabric, Basics, Sub Club, Row (Barcelona) Aria (Montreal) etc), Fred has been holed up in his Montreal studio honing his sound to perfection, with a host of local musicians and vocalists. 'Light Of Day' is the first instalment from these sessions and sees him teaming up for the first time with vocalist Rise Ashen (who has a forthcoming single on Afroart and a track on the new Glucklich compilation on Compost). It's a classic vocal track in the 20:20 Vision tradition: deep, techy, soulful and with a real feel for the dancefloor. The haunting, ethereal male vocals from Rise Ashen weave in and out of the mix, between a hypnotic, funky, elastic bassline, subtle, deep atmospherics and solid drums, recalling classic Beloved productions and the classic 20:20 Vision remixes of Blaze. There is also a wicked dub mix, for those stubborn DJs out there who just wont play vocals. This keeps the same basic elements as the vocal mix, only cutting the main vocal refrain up and teasing it into the mix, perfect for a bit of two copy action. Finally we have the bonus cut 'Go On', a superb, skippy, fluid track racing along on Freds trademark tight beats and riding an irresistible p-funk bassline, punctuated by disco strings and vocal samples.

Ewok "Supersound" Released 28.10.02 Cat No.TIDYTWO110 / TIDYTWO110CD
'Go Back' was one of the Tidy anthems of 2001 and the Ewok boys hit back in 2002 with their long awaited follow up and what again looks to be another stompin anthem for the Tidy Two label. Supersound is an uplifting journey of cool and calculated quality production, matched with a very catchy somewhat cheesy riff that has been sending the crowds into a frenzy of late. Regular plays from the Tidy Boys who have said that it was the biggest rack of their set at Gatecrasher Summer Sound System. On the flip we have the Freak back again with another quality remix for Tidy Trax. This time Freak takes it more on minimal German tip and will suit the cooler DJs amongst you with regular plays already from Jules, Fergie and Dave Pearce. Watch out for Freaks own track out towards the end of the year called 'The Melody The Sound' with a remix coming from Flutlicht!

Filta "Anaconda" Released 28.10.02 Cat No.INT008
Filta are the latest signing to Intrinsic, written and produced by Steve Gerrard (Bedroom Bedlam/Bedrock), Russell Pearce and Washington (Steve Lawlers studio engineer). Quantum have supplied the remix this time round, a new outfit consisting of Christian Lewis (Intrinsic Records), Anthony Coombs and Adam Halabi, both of whom go under the guise Nexus, with tracks out on Mr Cs Plink Plonk label and Hydrogen Rockers label Hydrogen Records.

Human Blue "Essence" Released 28.10.02 Cat No.TRA071
Essence, Human Blues new release on Transient Records, is a slice of trance heaven. Lush, hypnotic strings and eerie, haunting stabs slide effortlessly around a distant breakbeat until the kickdrum lets loose, engulfing the throbbing bassline and shifting FX to create a multi-sensory assault of transcendent bliss. At the five and half minute mark a beautiful piano roll is unleashed, creating a dreamy crescendo to a truly stunning record. Human Blue are all about deep, quality trance without the emotional baggage and Essence is set to be a big hit with the likes of Paul Van Dyk and John '00' Fleming who have built up their respective careers by pushing quality releases like this double A side. On the flip, the excellent Proggy Froggy continues Transients ongoing commitment to providing at least two A grade tunes on each 12, demonstrating perfectly why there is no such thing as a Transient B-Side. A sinister bassline simmers away menacingly in the background, flirting with monotony before an accession of chord changes bring this deep chugging monster to life and an intermittent succession of dark stabs and twisted arpeggios dive through your now fragile consciousness.
|

This three track EP has a distinct west-coast tech house style to it, reminiscent of the sound currently championed by labels such as Fluential, Eukatech and End Recordings. Basek & Lycenko presents Junkbeats is a collaboration between two of Northern New South Wales' finest electronic producers, based in Byron Bay, Australia. This is the first release from Dave Basek and Anthony Lycenko on Australian imprint Hussle Recordings and is perhaps Hussle's most unique release to date.

Lab 4 "Requiem" Released 28.10.02 Cat No.TIDY178T
Lab4s first ever full release on Tidy and what a release it is. 'Requiem' is a massive hard trancer using lush strings, sublime key changes and a huge euphoric riff to suit. 'Requiem' has been one of their biggest tracks in their live sets of late and after you hear this you can see why. Really big production that does its job in getting you going. On the flip we have '4th Floor'. Taken from the forthcoming album 'Virus' on Tidy Trax, '4th Floor' is more of a hard house track with a pumpin' bass line and percussion, and a fierce and evil riff sound, this is everything you associate with Lab 4. Watch out for more Lab 4 on Tidy soon.

Filterheadz "The One Who Got Caught" Released 28.10.02 Cat No.PB3014

Skinny Monkey "Heavy Vinyl" Released 28.10.02 Cat No.FLR040
Finally we get the long awaited track from one Australias premier DJs, Kasey Taylor and Manchesters finest, Evolution. Evolutions 'Walking On Fire' is still making noise, a massive tune for all the top DJs in Ibiza, John Digweed, Nick Warren, Dave Seaman and across the pond, breaking the Top 20 in the US Dance charts and still climbing. 'Heavy Vinyl' is just that a solid kick and pulsating bass line, submerged in sub bass, lead the track forward. An ethereal melody floats above, giving the track a Medway vibe. As the bass elements disappear the melody fills the void until a wicked mean kick drum breaks the space. A peak time dance floor tune for the dark and dirty sets. Kasey Taylor and Luke Chable (SAW Recordings) are on the remix, offering a brighter take on the original. A rolling bass line starts off making a feature the growling sub bass, analogue twists and echoed percussion.
