Lisa Lashes vs Lab 4
"Unbelievable"

Released 2.9.02
Cat No.TIDY175T / TIDY175PD / TIDY175CD

Lisa Lashes returns to the studio in this dynamic team up for the summer of 2002. LAB4 are hot property at the moment and to be honest the only people hard and brave enough to remix this Tidy classic. 'Unbelievable' has sold over 22,000 units so far and was instrumental in putting Lisas name on the DJ map. Well 2 years on from its debut here are two killer mixes from the hardest of the hard - LAB4! On the A side is the 'Licensed to Thrill' remix which, to be fair, is easily the hardest mix of the two. This is a no holds barred journey of sickening madness. Using the now infamous samples to good effect, which is what LAB4 are famous for! Play at your peril. On the B side is a more sedate effort, if LAB4 can do that?! On more of a hard house tip this version takes the original and really brings it up to date. This time they don't use a lot of the samples but still give you a general feel of the original, and one Im sure will win many friends with the purists. This special release is available on a limited 2000 pressing picture disc as well as normal vinyl and CD single. Watch out for the new LAB4 album, 'Virus', forthcoming on Tidy Trax.

Rio
"Don't Cry"

Released 2.9.02
Cat No.3BLM004

This is Threes fourth release and once again leans towards a slightly more housey vibe. The label has quickly found a niche within the market and is featuring amongst sets from many DJs worldwide. The overall plan is to release records that will appeal to the few rather than the many. By doing this the label has quickly built up a cool and credible name for itself and with releases like this, things are looking good for the future. A double A side here of two tracks that have been circulating with the premier league DJs for months. First up is the superb Jarrod vs Freeloader remix of Dont Cry. On the flip side Pablo Gargano goes all tribal and comes up with a remix of Heaven that is also doing damage all over the globe. Again a remix that will have superb longevity in todays fast moving house market. This is the 3rd remix that Andy Jarrod and Freeloader have teamed up to produce. Following on from their remixes of Chris Carter for Forged Recordings and Trancesetters for Hooj Choons, this is perhaps their finest moment so far. Jarrod should need no introduction to most. Head of Liverpools 3 Beat Label Management operation, former Choo Choo artist and respected global DJ, he has spent the first half of this year concentrating on spinning records. Freeloader consists of Steve Bent and Tim Scott. Their cool edged house music as Nimrod, Kwirky, Polekat, Bug, Element N and Cube has appeared on labels such as Renaissance, Junior, Fuju, Binary, 3 Beat, Toko and Serious. Pablo Gargano should again need no introduction. Eve Records artist and worldwide DJ, Pablos profile has rocketed in the last 12 months thanks to a string of high profile remixes.

Chonga
"Nasty"

Released 2.9.02
Cat No.CHG005

'Nasty' is audible proof of how a style of sound can pull the soul and drive it intensely at heightened moments. Boasting a minimal array of refined elements, Phil has mastered his art and truly knows how to give and hold back hose bursts of energy that are essential to the club experience. 'Nasty's' signature is a resonating synth riff that hauntingly keeps imposing itself just when you think it might let up. 'Reflections of Dark' unrelentingly pulls the spirit to even darker corners of the genre where the vibe is still heating up to a boil, hinting signs of explosion, but not yet at the point of complete combustion. A song that beams with creativity and originality of the pure concepts of dub and drum. Phil uses even less elements than in 'Nasty' to achieve just as large a feel for a less intense track.

Deep Sensation

Steve Lawler
"Andante"

Released 2.9.02
Cat No.BED35 / BED35R

Steve Lawler further establishes himself a one of progressive houses foremost production talents. Despite huge commitments on the international DJ scene, Steve Lawler has still found time for studio work and emerges with what looks set to be one of the largest dancefloor favourites of summer 2002. Complete with hypnotic remixes from The Scumfrog and The Low End Specialists, 'Andante' is an awesome tribal etched, super-charged beat driven number. Following on from last years 'Rise In', Steve is enjoying major support from the music worlds prime movers including Radio One' s Pete Tong, Danny Tenaglia and John Digweed, and this single looks set to be one of the summer' s 'top of the night' big room anthems with its dirty beats, epic breakdowns and superb tribal vocal. Kicking things off on the vinyl is the storming original Taiko Mix with its afro chants, drop outs and tuff driving beats. One of the remix outfits of the moment, The Low End Specialists provide the flip delivering a minimal n' hypnotic Year Of The Drum Remix. Rounding this massive dancefloor package off is The Scumfrog workout. Screaming to be heard on the dancefloor, The Scumfrog go for the funky dark jugular on their FF Tusson D'Or mix, with great baying breaks and tuff bumping beats. This makes an essential new tune for the record box, combined with the Taiko Dub B-side, Lawler's own reworking of the original.

Lima Papa
"Superlovin'"

Released 2.9.02
Cat No.SSYN001

New kids on the block, Lima Papa are superstar producers David O Donell and Colin McCrevie. A transatlantic team, both are respected figures on the US house scene and are looking to inject some excitement onto UK dance floors this summer with their massive new track, 'Superlovin'. Of course you may have already heard leaked copies dropped at this years WMC..With its roots obviously derived from disco and soul, 'Superlovin' the vox mix can only be described as a funky, chunky house track with an infectious vocal to boot. With its solid 4 to the floor bass line and simple melodic synth loops, its distinctive lyrics filter in and out over and over, making it instantly recognisable and infectious. The dub is equally as good, concentrating more on the superb but simple thumping bass line and is just as dancefloor friendly as the a side. We hope you enjoy this happy anthem as much as Lima Papas followers have across the water as it will no doubt be one of the biggest tunes heard across the decks this summer.

Problem Kid
"Movin' On"

Released 2.9.02
Cat No.KID002

Hot on the heels of Liquid Peoples 'Too Much Love' comes the second release from KIDOLOGY: 'Movin On' is the 1st track from MARK WILKINSON under the alias PROBLEM KID, a name Mark will now be using for all his solo productions. Mark Wilkinson began DJing in 1990 at the infamous Shave Yer Tongue (Bracknell) and Passion (Maidenhead). Later that year he started work at Kensingtons Flying Records where he was quickly promoted to Assistant Manager and met his studio & DJing partner, Rocky with whom he formed the Problem Kids. And you cant escape the Problem Kid this year with his remixes of some of the biggest tracks of the moment coming your way soon: 'World Famous Martinez Orchestra -Southside', 'Xpress2 - Lazy', West London Deep - You're Taking Me Over. The pumping house track, 'Movin On', was produced in Marks own Care Studios based in Hammersmith and features the soaring vocals of Dee Ellington, a previous collaborator on the track 'Its Over'. Aptly titled, 'Movin On' is definitely one for the househeadz and represents the sound so popular down at Marks night weekly night KIDSOUND jackin beats topped with an infectious melody in this case sung by the fantastic DEE ELLINGTON, an old collaborator of Marks last appearing on the 'My First Acid House' album on Paper Recordings. Diesel (Xpress2) rang to say he loves 'Movin On' Kid 002 Mark Wilkinson.

Raff vs Jay Pidgeon
"Magika"

Released 2.9.02
Cat No.OTRFT012

Emerald Isle duo Raff and Jay Pidgeon return to OTR with a follow up to their massive debut, Flipside (Addiction), and serve up another dark, throbbing trancer to satisfy the most demanding of dancefloors. Mysterious German duo Heinrich & Heinz lead the way with a lethal cocktail of hard beats, crisp percussion and a phat, warped bassline. This all meets the killer synth lead line, haunting vocal and a totally twisted breakdown of typical German perfection that will have the crowds begging for more. The original mix has all the key elements of the bassline, lead synth and vocal but is weaved into a mix with a tough UK sound for those who like it that way.

Shaboom
"If You Need Me"

Released 2.9.02
Cat No.SHAB052 / SHAB053

Shabooms' massive track of the spring gets a well deserved re-rub from the Headhuntaz after the original was hammered by everybody from David Morales to Ashley Beedle to DJ Onionz and reached number 6 in Updates Hype chart. Its modern take on Salsoul and Larry Gold string arrangements was a breath of fresh air in a house music scene that often relies on rehashed old disco loops and dodgy vocals. As Graeme Park said in his reaction, "Fantastic: if only everybody took this much trouble over their music.." The Headhuntaz are man-of-the-moment and Pete Tong favourite, Matt Thomas (King Unique, Dirty, Watkins. JBO), and Steven Cosgrove who are part of the loose production collective that also includes the Matthew and Leon Roberts. Matts previous releases on Shaboom include the Sasha and Digweed favourite, Black AM which was licensed to Direction Records where it became a hugeunderground hit. On 'If You Need Me' he adds his trademark magic with a slightly progressive, crunchy mix that aims straight at the darkest corner of the dance floor. Those digital noises and stabs that only Matt Thomas seems to create are used to devastating effect while Taka Booms diva vocals are placed over the top and provide a great contrast. The dub is stripped down but retains the same intensity for that Saturday night rush which Nick Warren has been all over on TP. Whilst the Headhuntaz (SHAB052) mix surfed on the dark side, the Fred Everything / Mark Bell dream team keeps things more in tune with the original. The two hooked up a couple of years ago due to their mutual respect for each other and have proved to be a dynamic force. Canadian DJ and Fabric resident Fred Everything (20:20 Vision, Naked Music) brought his deep house and jazz influences to the studio, which contrast beautifully with Blakkats (Siesta, Blakhook) more techy roots for something completely unique. The first results of the pairing have been heard on Sobeck that came out on Shaboom Records last year to great critical response. Based around a solid, funky bass driven groove, the song is given the space to breathe with Taka at her sultry best. Tribal Sessions resident Greg Vickers "loves it...another corker for Shaboom." On the flip, Jazzanova and King Britt collaborator, Philadelphia Philip Charles does his tech-jazz thing which has already been played on Giles Petersons Radio 1 show Worldwide by Rob Yancy. Its deep, weird and beatless with minor key chord changes and Taka never sounding hotterthere is nothing like it in any record shop at the moment. Things are finished off with Fred and Marks dub which strips their mix down and has Simply Reds Ian Kirkham weaving his sax magic over the top. A great contrasting package that is gives this great song a new lease of life
