Son Kite
"Aiwana"

Released 17.6.02
Cat No.VSUAL01

New to 3 BLM are Vsual Recordings, part of the Swedish based MPDQX Label Group, who have been releasing quality material from trance and psy-trance genres for years. This is their first venture into an altogether different sound keeping the emphasis on underground, deep and cool. Son Kite were formally a psy-trance outfit who have know branched out with the help of DJ Nukem (Alessandro), who has provided two amazing remixes. The A side is a deep and groovy piece of percussive house that keeps the interest flowing throughout, whilst the B side mix strips things down and takes a slightly lighter look at things. Very difficult to split these 2 mixes - quality through and through and certainly a label to watch.

Artificial Funk
"I Can't Help Myself"
Released 17.06.02
Cat No.BBR008

Artificial Funk previously released 'People Dont Know' on Brother Brown which made it into the box of Tom Stephan and several other big name DJs. Steve Lawler was one of the first to see and appreciate the talents of Artificial Funk and this is what he said about 'I Can't Help Myself': "I love the Artificial Funk track (v nice). Played it last night in New York, it is a very good mood setter track, played it early on but absolute quality." Jerry Bonham said: "Fantastic production and immediate response on the floor..." and Satoshi Tomiie: "Artificial Funk is my favorite will drop in Miami." So, If youre into super funky percussion, weird male vocals and a breakdown thatll twist your head and ass around, then look no further as this record has all the right ingredients to rock the dance floor. A-side is super-funky vocal house, while the flip is deep and moody.

Simon Noble vs. Blackwatch
"Time Flies"

Released 17.6.02
Cat No.PB3012

Aptly titled 'Time Flies', the project began in New York and found its way ending up in Leeds and the result couldnt have been better. The boys have turned out a timeless and musical masterpiece that has been the talk of the town. Included on this 12 are 2 totally abstract mixes from Mick Wilson, who rocks it out with his peak time Ice Cream Social interpretations. The A side original is a collage filled with a flow of epic and wavy synth sounds elegantly layered on top of a thick and pumping bassline. The relentless dynamic is topped off with a seemingly endless piano line, familiar to the ones of long lost yesterday. This resurrection of forgotten progressive music is evident from Simon and Blackwatchs clinically precise production. Just ask Sander Kleinenberg, who has licensed it for his forthcoming Essential Mix compilation. The flipside offers 2 twisted Ice Cream Social mixes presented by Mick Wilson from Tilt and Parks & Wilson fame. Mick, disguised under his new Pitch Black moniker, submits a primetime big-room version that breaks down into a melting pot filled with swirls, sweeps, and impeccable breakbeats. His second instalment is more late-night and laid-back, perfect for any early morning set compiled of weird and airy sounds and a breakbeat that fits like a glove.

Freeloader
"Stop Go!"

Released 17.06.02
Cat No.BIN004

Freeloader are Tim Scott & Stephen Bent. They have enjoyed previous success having produced with Andy Jarrod on Hooj Choons, Manifesto and Forged Recordings. Stephen has recently had a solo project signed to Junior whilst Tim has had tracks signed to Renaissance and Eve. 'Stop Go!' features huge snares, bendy bass and a massive male vocal sample: "Everybody on the floor...Stop...GO!!!" Already heavily featured in Steve Lawlers box, having been short-listed for his forthcoming GU comp, this is sure to be massive on floors across the globe. The flip side features a dark and tribal remix by Renaissance's Polekat who are currently receiving plays from the likes of Danny Howells and Marcus James and are making their way onto the more tribal scene.

20:20 Vision
"Revisions"

Released 17.06.02
Cat No.VIS075CD

Last year Ralph Lawson hit the DJ mix scene with the highly acclaimed 'Visionaries 1'. Still regarded as in the top ten mix CDs of 2001 (Jockey Slut and Seven), the album was five star compilation of the month in Seven and Jockey Slut as well as five star in DJ and Wax. This came as no surprise to the regulars at Back To Basics in Leeds where Ralph is the longest serving resident in the UK, putting in over ten years of invaluable deck action for infamous promotor Dave Beer. Ralph has been voted in the top ten residents consistently over the last five years and even gained a place in the top ten DJs of all time list compiled by Bill Brewster (author of 'Last Night A DJ Saved My Life') alongside Levan, Knuckles and Sasha! Perhaps it is because he remains faithfull to the Leeds club and does not travel the country as much as some jocks he has kept a highly respected but lower profile in recent years, but through recording and running his own label he has now achieved a global profile under the 20:20 Vision name. He now hosts residencies in Barcelona at The Row as well as regular appearances at fabric-London (where the Revision launch party is on May 25th), Slam-Glasgow, The Wagg, Open House and Batofar in Paris (he has just finished mixing a compilation for Batofar due for September release).

Cat No.BABE006

Strong percussive workouts by Alexander Koning and Andy Slate (Funk Elements EP) giving this simple and uncomplicated techno / progressive twister the funky crossover feel. This is supported by the original George Schultz mix, which is dark and groovy and full of energy. Beautiful groovy techno in 3 quality mixes to please all ends of the scale.

This 12 contains mixes by trance mixer Equator, plus DJ Peran and Bob Ltd. Peran's profile is currently very high as his last release 'Good time' was a Europe-wide smash hit and was issued in the UK on the highly respected Incentive label.

Justin Bourne
"Move Your Body"

Released 17.06.02
Cat No.EM014

Arguably the most consistent label of the past eighteen months, Elasticmans fourteenth outing has been huge for the likes of Lisa Lashes and Ilogik in recent months. Ilogiks the man behind the label, and along with M. Ramone and P. Clarke, hes one of the most exciting new additions to the scene. His ace remake of MYB bounces with attitude, using just the vocal from the original and adding an amazing new breakdown, as he does, wicked riffs and rattling drum loops that lock you into the groove. Justins Original Version is pretty damn special too a pounding assault with big riffs, brilliant loops and punchy production as tight as a nuns knickers. Keeping your body still is not an option. 5 out of 5 & Vital Release from Justin Bourne in Muzik.

Charlie J
"Hard Thing"

Released 17.06.02
Cat No.HOTWAX019

Charlie J, another Lincoln lad, makes his first appearance on the hard house scene and does it with a wicked EP set to rock floors all over the place. Hard Thing is exactly what the title says: a tough kick drum is equally matched by a hard chuggy bassline and it drops with a high-energy riff and a nice filtered stab leading to the main break. It then kicks in out of nowhere with extreme power leaving any crowd breathless and gagging for it. Dazed & Confused builds in a similar way with nasty, dirty filters all over the place. A more uplifting feel to this side keeps hold of all the hard house elements. A wicked EP to set this young lad rolling on the hard house circuit.

White Russians
"Tortilla Wrap"

Released 17.06.02
Cat No.BLH141

White Russians is the group name of Steven Klaver ( aka King of Clubs) and Geert Huinink (Dawnseekers). Their first single, Unipolar (also released on BHR) did very well in the clubs. Tortilla Wrap is a techy trancer with a groovy bassline. Halfway through the song, strings are added which gives it a more melodic twist. Dangerous Liaisons is much more club-influenced, with a funky drive and is suitable for house as well as trance jocks. Navigator has a more progressive feel, with a dark bassline and some old Jam & Spoon inspired strings. The track is already licensed to Q-Dance mixed by DJ Astrid.

Signum vs Scott Mac
"Coming On Strong"

Released 17.06.02
Cat No.TIDYTWO104T / TIDYTWO104T2 / TIDYTWO104CD

After the Top 40 success of 'What ya got me?' back in January, Tidy were propelled to re-release its follow up 'Coming on Strong' and give this Tidy classic a new look for the 21st Century. It took them a long time to decide who was to remix this gem and they were inundated with offers. On Disc One however the lucky two are the Crow and Vinyl Mafia. The Crow, who recently had a smash hit with his remix of 'Chainsaw' serves up a nice, pumped up German style version which has been getting huge support from the Tidy Boys over the spring. On the flip we have a debut mix from Vinyl Mafia who come up with a quality remix to keep the hard house heads nodding with approval. On disc two is arguably the producers of the year! S.H.O.K.K are from Switzerland of all places, but boy can they pack a punch. Awesome production prevails with noticeable support from Lee Haslam and Eddie Halliwell who have been caning it in every set! On the flip is the famous Hyperlogic remix done by Paul Janes back in July 1999.

"Viva Bugged Out! Sampler"

Released 17.06.02
Cat No.VTLPDJ448

This is the sound of the summer 2002. Jon Carter serves up a typically massive slice of dancefloor mayhem 'Viva Bugged Out!' the album on Virgin Records. Featuring loads of exclusives, the mix is packed to the rafters with jacking Latin and Brazilian rhythms. It's his definitive DJ mix, and reflects a culmination of an 8 year career that has encompassed residencies at Boutique (London and Brighton), Heavenly Social (London), Home (London), Influx (Dublin), and of course Bugged Out! (Liverpool). Here are peak time cuts from Dubtribe Sound System, Derrick Carter (ToneTheory) and the hard to find Peace Division remix of Oz tribal (literally!) rockers Yothu Yindi on 'Treaty'. 2002 has already been a busy year for Jon Carter. Lithium / Jean-Phillipe Aviance
"Ride A Rocket / Useless"

Released 17.06.02
Cat No.SUB88T

Only ever released on 10 test pressings each, these 2 tracks were never commercially released, although they did appear on a Pete Tong album and a John Digweed Global Underground album (Live in Hong Kong). Since then they have been the most requested tracks the label has ever had: they get 3-5 e-mails a week requesting a copy of the instrumental of 'Useless' over 3 years after it was made! Lithium was a former Essential New Tune, No 1 Cool Cuts and No 1 Buzzchart that actually entered the UK Top 40 in 1997 with Sonya Madan from Echobelly singing on it. Lithium is ex-Alcatraz (remember the classic Give Me Luv on AM:PM) member, Victor Imbres. Jean-Philippe Aviance was of course the other half of the Alctraz team before they parted company in 1996. This will be a limited 3000 only pressing. Both tracks are absolute classics that, having never been released, are in high demand.
